Drew Ebelhare
museum quality paperweights

Drew Ebelhare (Colorado, USA) is a modern master of millefiori. His work displays incredible detail and a marvelous balance of color. According to The Dictionary of Glass Paperweights, Drew Ebelhare is “the preeminent millefiori paperweight artist in the United States.” His canes are some of the finest ever made.

PW237. Drew Ebelhare 1993 Museum piece. In the paperweight making history of Drew Ebelhare, this comes along fairly early. Drew made his first millefiori canes in 1991 and he made this weight in 1993. The appearance of his work was met with high interest by the paperweight collectors community. Paperweight expert Paul Dunlop had this to say about Drew’s early work: “His early colors were garish and the millefiori simple.” (The Dictionary of Glass Paperweights). I don’t really disagree but still I think this is a killer weight. I might say bright as opposed to garish. The hot colors do indeed remind one of Paul Ysart or Strathearn, and Drew’s millefiori work of later years was vastly more skilled. Still I think this is a very cool weight – I like the way it was built – the old fashioned way with a stave basket. This is a stunning twisted cane cross to boot.  Condition is excellent. Signed with an E signature cane dead center (it’s tiny)  and on the base “Ebelhare 04-93 Houston”.  2 9/16 inch diameter; 1 15/16 inches tall; ten ounces.  $550
