PW2611. Collection of Gardens of the World: KYOTO, a Japanese Garden. Baccarat Modern Super Magnum Pedestal Museum Piece 2000 Limited Edition of 30 – NUMBER 6. So rare that only 30 people in the Universe can own one. Subtract those that are in museums or damaged and who knows how low that number actually is. This paperweight (this very one not just one of the other 25) is pictured in the most complete Baccarat book ever published, Baccarat Paperweights: Two Centuries of Beauty by Paul Dunlop. This paperweight is pictured on page 243. Condition is excellent, as if you walked into the finest store in Paris 18 years ago. The weight is bright and colorful with a foot bridge to an island, lotus blossoms, and other lovely adornments, all in a well-balanced, beautifully executed piece. Limited edition of 30 and numbered 6/26 along with 2000 for the year and etched with the Baccarat logo and engraved Baccarat on the base. This and the few other large pedestal weights Baccarat make in their waning years are testament to the skill and breath of talent of the great paperweight artists at Baccarat – the artisans skills had been building since the 1950s and now, in what they must have known or suspected to be one of their final years of production, out of spite and pride came, these few amazing masterpieces. Each is an important piece in art glass history. Comes with box and certificate of authenticity –the box is very large to accommodate this very large glass sculpture – the box is 8 ¾ inches tall by 7 ¼ by 7. Actual paperweight is 4 7/8 inches in diameter; 4 7/8 inches tall; weight is six pounds and two ounces.  $4250 NET

 
 
 

PW1777. Baccarat 1986 Limited Edition Museum piece. 1986 Limited Edition of 200 weights. A wonderful floral bouquet with arum lilies and five petaled flowers hovers peacefully over a white honeycomb over blue ground offering a tribute to the fertility of nature. The diameter is 3 3/16 inches; height 2 1/4 inches; one pound, eight ounces. The bottom is marked with the Baccarat logo, 1986 and #80/200. Date cane “B1986” at the center of a flower. New/Perfect/ Pristine.   $575

 

PW1606. Baccarat Museum Piece Numbered Edition from 1971. It is likely this is a one-of-a-kind or perhaps they made a few of these. At any rate it is very rare. Note the exquisite petals. Beautiful Millefiori Flower on translucent blue ground. Signature/date cane “B1971”. Base has two etched Baccarat emblems and is engraved “1971” and “100”, meaning this was the 100th collector paperweight they made in 1971. I graduated from college that year so I know it is very old. Condition is excellent with some shelf wear. 3 inch diameter; 2 1/8 inches tall; one pound and four ounces.  $500

 

PW2587. Baccarat 1977 SNAIL (actually Escargot). These years for Baccarat – 50s into 70s, what I call the Early Modern Era, were years of practice and innovation, a crucible of paperweight art. Very nice snail, complete with eyeballs on the ends of long stalks … cool. Signature cane “B1977” in the realistic grassy and flowery ground. This paperweight is pictured in the most complete Baccarat book ever published, Baccarat Paperweights: Two Centuries of Beauty by Paul Dunlop – you need this book). This paperweight is pictured on page 187. Etched with the Baccarat logo on the base and engraved “93/300” and “1977”. 3 1/8 inch diameter;  2 5/16 inches tall; one pound and six ounces. Condition is excellent.  $525

PW2786. Baccarat Modern Magnum Museum Piece 1994* Limited Edition of 100 – NUMBER 65. Bouquet of carnations and lilacs. Take a good look at this piece. The series for this year was a set of six floral weights – these are exceptional works of art. 1994 Baccarat made six limited edition weights – all of them flower themed and three of them bouquets. The designer for the series, Evelyne Julien “has redefined the art of paperweight-making by freely interpreting shapes and colors. Her talent has brought innovation to the interplay of harmony and volume.” -from the original 1994 Baccarat brochure.

Dunlop wrote: “The edition sizes were smaller this year and the weights larger. The bouquets are elegant, exhibiting advanced lampworking skills.”

This is one of the greatest French bouquets from any age. It floats above a rich green opaque ground. This paperweight (this very one not just one of the other 99) is pictured in the most complete Baccarat book ever published, Baccarat Paperweights: Two Centuries of Beauty by Paul Dunlop. This paperweight is pictured on page 223. Condition is excellent. Limited edition of 100 and numbered 65/100 along with 1994 for the year and etched with the Baccarat logo. Comes with box and original certificate of authenticity. 3 3/4 (very large) inch diameter; 2 5/8 inches tall; this really amazing glass paperweight weighs two pounds and six ounces.  $1500
