Pairpoint

Pairpoint  Glass Works is a descendant of the famous Mount Washington Glass Works in Sagamore, Massachusetts. According to Paul Dunlop in The Dictionary of Glass Paperweights, “The most interesting weight from Pairpoint was a crimp rose they made for several years in the 1970s. The large rose, made in different colors each year, stands on a pedestal. The foot of the pedestal is engraved with a grape and leaf design.” I have seen them in red (some dated 1972), yellow (some dated 1973), and variegated purple (some dated 1974). Some that I have seen have the engraved pedestal and some do not. Some are faceted, most are not. Some are dated and/or numbered, some are not. Note: the grape engraving was done by Ed Poore.

Modern Pairpoint also made a nice variety of other paperweights in many classic styles. They made some of the finest crimp rose paperweights – as nice or better than many Millville pieces, far better than any foreign made crimp roses, and larger than the excellent crimp roses made by Charles Kaziun and Francis Whittemore, if not as perfect, yet perhaps more realistic. Their roses in all sizes are the standouts.
